Installation of Epoxy Flooring Over Tile
This project involved the installation of epoxy flooring over an old mosaic tile floor. The first task was to determine if the tile was well-bonded. Once confirmed, we mechanically abraded the surface to create the manufacturer’s desired profile for ideal adhesion.
We proceeded to remove the existing vinyl cove so that we could apply our integrated epoxy coving, which will ultimately be seamless, creating a “bathtub” effect. This project happened in a school restroom, making our chemical-resistant topcoat ideal for minimizing staining. etc.
We used fast-curing resins to minimize downtime, allowing the area to be back in service in two days.
Preparation for Our Installation of Epoxy Flooring
Ceramic tile has a glazed finish, but the base is typically a clay base that has the same expansion coefficient as concrete, making it the ideal bonding surface. While we completed the profile, we confirmed and taped out all the areas for the new cove base installation. Due to the thorough preparation, meeting the desired result, we will have a long-term flooring solution that will be easy to clean and chemical resistant, allowing this epoxy floor system to provide years of service.
Installing Epoxy Flooring With Cove
Any area that is exposed to wet conditions should always have a radius cove installed. Particularly, an integrated cove leaves no seams for dirt to accumulate. Furthermore, it minimizes “lazy” mopping with a dirty mop head, leaving behind soil stains in the corners and potentially bad odors over time.
Once the cove is complete, we remove the tape and confirm all edges are clean and neat. Then we solvent wipe the floor to eliminate any concerns for loose particles that could hinder and bonding of the upcoming decorative epoxy flooring system. We proceed with our high solids epoxy primer and allow that to take tack up a bit, creating the perfect adhesion for the finished epoxy floor installation.
Installation of Epoxy Flooring Using Flakes
In conclusion, our installation of epoxy flooring can come in many different colors and styles. This one happened to be an epoxy flake flooring system. This system, while aesthetically pleasing, retains the same durability and ease of cleaning as any other solid color system might retain.
This project was under tight time constraints, so we accommodated the customers’ needs by using fast-curing resins, which allowed for a quick return to service.
